Green Grasshopper with Natural Brass Legs

This decorative grasshopper captures the delicate structure and stillness of an insect at rest. The ceramic body is elongated and gently arched, balanced by six finely cast brass legs that lift it slightly from the surface. The green glaze gives depth to the form while preserving a sense of clarity and restraint.

The ceramic body is shaped and glazed by hand using a traditional dipping technique. Its surface carries a rich green finish with subtle tonal shifts. The legs are cast from solid brass using sand molds and left untreated to preserve the metal’s natural warmth. Subtle differences in glaze and brass finish reflect the character of each handmade piece.

This piece is made in the Oeste region, a Portuguese region with a strong tradition in ceramic work. Artisans in the region continue to produce objects through slow, deliberate processes that respect form, material, and technique. Each grasshopper is assembled by hand. The body is immersed in glaze to achieve a consistent surface, while the brass legs are individually cast and shaped to hold the form in balance.
