About This Piece
Known as Kepeng Statues, this handcrafted medium metal couple blends symbolic form with sculptural design rooted in Balinese tradition. They stand side by side, hands pressed in greeting, their bodies covered in layered Kepeng coins. Kepeng are ancient Chinese-style coins with a square hole in the center that circulated in Bali for centuries and came to symbolize prosperity, protection, and spiritual offering in temple rites and community ceremonies.
Their dark finish and upright stance give the piece a quiet strength, rooted in both reverence and craft. Raised on a lotus-style pedestal, the statues carry a ceremonial presence that can anchor any space while honoring the cultural significance of Kepeng in Balinese history.
Also available in Small.

Materials & Craftsmanship
This Medium Coin-Metal Statue is shaped by hand using traditional Balinese metal-forming methods. Each coin detail is individually pressed or cut, then joined with etched surface work to create a dimensional, layered texture. The dark finish is achieved through an oxidized patina and light polishing, giving subtle tonal depth.

Artisan Heritage
Shaped by Balinese artisans with a background in symbolic metalwork, this figure reflects a quiet balance of form and meaning. The layered coin elements reference Kepeng coins, ancient bronze Chinese-style coins with a square hole in the center that circulated in Bali for centuries. Beyond everyday trade, Kepeng held deep cultural significance for Balinese communities, used in temple offerings, processions, and protective adornments to invite prosperity, blessings, and balance. Though crafted for the present, its design carries the imprint of cultural memory and time-honored technique.
